Measuring progress in the sheep industry’s sustainability

With spring in full swing, the Sheep Sustainability Framework Steering Group is turning its attention to the upcoming launch of the 2026 Annual Report in November. 

The Annual Report remains one of the Framework's most important publications.  

It provides a transparent assessment of sustainability across Australia's sheep meat and wool industries, bringing together data, trends and insights that help industry stakeholders understand where progress is being made and where challenges remain. 

Over recent months, Steering Group members have contributed significant time and expertise to refining this year's report.  

Drawing on perspectives from across the value chain, members have challenged assumptions, reviewed content, strengthened key messages and helped ensure the report remains relevant, credible and useful to its audiences.  

The dedicated review meeting held on 24 August was an important milestone in this process.  

What excites me most is not simply the publication itself, but the conversations it enables. Sustainability continues to evolve as a priority for producers, customers, investors and the wider community.  

The Annual Report provides an opportunity to reflect on progress, identify emerging issues and support informed discussion about the future of our industry. 

There is still some work to be done before the report is finalised, but I am confident the November release will provide valuable insights for stakeholders across the sheep industry.
