Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

The sheep industry supports Australia’s contribution to the UN SDGs. The Sheep Sustainability Framework demonstrates alignment with 10 of the 17 goals including both leading and supporting contributions or impacts. The Framework is most closely aligned with Goal 2 — Zero hungeragainst Priority Target 2.4 — By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality.
