Sustainable Development Goals

The UN SDGs consist of 17 goals, 169 targets and 232 unique indicators. National governments, including Australia, are expected to contribute to and report on all 17 goals through the UN process. The sheep industry supports Australia’s contribution to the UN SDGs. Using a robust methodology based on consideration of each goal’s targets and indicators, the Sheep Sustainability Framework demonstrates alignment with 10 of the 17 goals including both leading and supporting contributions or impacts. The Sheep Sustainability Framework is most closely aligned with:

Goal 2 — Zero hunger

By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality.
